Biography
Doctor, professor of pediatric immunology, former director and co-founder of the Imagine genetic diseases institute at Necker-Enfants malades hospital, Alain Fischer is also professor emeritus at the Collège de France on the chair of experimental medicine, and a member of the US Academy of Sciences and Medicine. Alain Fischer's work has led to a better understanding of the development and functions of the immune system, as well as to the development of new therapies for inherited disorders of this system, including gene therapy. In December 2020, Alain Fischer was appointed by the French government as chairman of the steering committee for the vaccination strategy against the Covid-19 pandemic in France. He was thus tasked with setting up and explaining the deployment of the vaccine strategy decided by the government. Already in 2016, Alain Fischer had taken the reins of the steering committee for the citizens' consultation on vaccination, tasked with making proposals to respond to the mistrust of part of the population with regard to vaccines.
